The successful candidate will contribute to our growing emphasis on community-engaged journalism.
We particularly encourage candidates whose research and/or professional work emphasizes the experiences and issues of traditionally underrepresented groups.
Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities: The position carries 24 TCH per academic year (usually three 4-credit classes per semester).
The successful candidate will teach Communication Studies courses within the Journalism track, as well as General Studies courses in their specialty.
These may include courses such as: Introduction to Mass Communication, Principles of Journalism, Digital Storytelling, Journalistic Writing, Restorative Journalism, Reporting & Interviewing, Multimedia Writing, Data Journalism, and Community Reporting.
This position will also serve as Faculty Advisor for Stockton’s student chapter of Society of Professional Journalists and will play an active role in expanding our co-curricular programming and pre-professional opportunities for students (professional networking, industry engagement, experiential learning opportunities, and professional development programming).
Tenure-track faculty are expected to maintain an active research/creative activity agenda, and participate in professional activities, scholarship, and/or creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline.
Faculty are also expected to contribute service at the program, school, and University level, including academic/career advising for Communication Studies students, program curricular development and assessment, school and University committee service, and community/professional engagement.
Required Qualifications Ph.
D.
in Journalism, Mass Communication, or a closely related field.
Advanced ABD candidates will be hired at the Instructor level until the degree is completed Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of 3 years of professional journalism experience Experience teaching at the university level Professional and/or academic specialization in one or more of the following: grassroots journalism, restorative journalism, community-engaged reporting, alternative news organizations, multimedia storytelling, audio/visual newsgathering, feature writing, and investigative reporting Experience with non-traditional students and diverse groups Screening Information: Screening of applications begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
